​"YUTP scholarship changed my life." 

Those words were uttered by a very happy and grateful Muhammad Hafifi after receiving the YUTP scholarship.

Hafifi did not grow up in the best living conditions. When his father was laid off, the family had to depend solely on his mother's paltry salary as a kitchen helper. Even though his future looked bleak, it stoked a fire in Hafifi to make a better life for his family.

He realised that his path to achieving the means to help his family would be through a good education. He worked hard to earn a place in a boarding school and toiled tirelessly to graduate with outstanding SPM results. With the excellent results under his belt, Hafifi set his sights on graduating from a top-ranking university in order for him to secure a place as a highly competent professional in the challenging environment of the working world.

YUTP made it possible for Hafifi to enrol at UTP and climb a step closer to achieving his dream of becoming a petroleum geoscientist. With the YUTP scholarship, Hafifi is financially independent and does not have to burden his parents so much.

When asked about studying at UTP, Hafifi replied saying that he believed UTP was equal to most overseas institutions "in terms of learning and social experience." He added that he has "a lot of friends from around the world and the academic and development activities offered at this university are top-notch." Hafifi who achieved a place on the Dean's List in the recent examination is certain that UTP can shape and mould him into the highly-sought-by-industry model graduate with the necessary skills, knowledge and expertise that top industries demand today. His hope is that more students can be helped in the future through YUTP.
